Dream & Reality delves into the delicate interplay between the conscious and subconscious, using minimalism and surreal elements to blur the lines between dreams and reality. The project centers on black-and-white tones, establishing a stark, clean aesthetic that emphasizes simplicity and the duality between light and shadow. These monochromatic hues create a space where the boundaries between dreamscapes and the waking world become fluid and indistinguishable.

The addition of pink introduces a subtle layer of emotion, a touch of warmth that contrasts against the coolness of the black and white. It represents a soft, fleeting connection between the two worlds—dreams and reality—while adding a touch of whimsy and vulnerability. Mirrors and mirrors within mirrors are used throughout, reflecting the self and extending the narrative beyond the surface. These reflective elements symbolize introspection, as well as the cyclical nature of dreams, where reality folds into itself and reveals layers of deeper understanding.

The use of circles in the composition reinforces the idea of infinity and continuity, echoing the cyclical nature of dreams that continuously loop and reappear. Double exposure further enhances this idea of intertwining realities, blending two or more moments into one, creating a fluid, overlapping visual experience. The distortion between the real and the imagined captures the essence of what it feels like to exist in both worlds at once.

In the designer’s own words: “I cannot say that my dream and reality are entirely separate; they are intertwined. Dream is a kind of subconscious, it reflects our subconscious recognition of things during the daytime, and the scenes of our dream will also appear in our real life like a kind of prediction. With the passage of time, this dreamland seemed to become a part of my memory. As time gets longer, I sometimes can’t tell if something happened is a dream or if it is something that I have actually experienced…”

Through this project, Dream & Reality invites the viewer to experience the blurred boundaries between the two realms, where memories, dreams, and reality collide. The work reflects the complexity of human perception and the ongoing dialogue between the inner world and the outer one.
