Ballet Story draws inspiration from the Black Swan theory, where unexpected, high-impact events reshape the course of history, much like the current pandemic. The project began with the intention of using starkly contrasting elements to illustrate the fragility and romance of the external world, while simultaneously reflecting the strength and internal struggle that lie beneath the surface. The initial vision was to depict this contrast through the interplay of delicate beauty and hidden tension.
However, as the project evolved, a shift occurred. The external beauty was encapsulated in romantic floral settings, which serve as a gentle facade, veiling the inner turmoil and tragic reality that lurks beneath. This subtle yet poignant shift is what we have come to call "the sugar coating of reality"—a layer that softens the harshness of the truth while also underscoring the tension between the appearance of beauty and the complexity of what lies underneath. The symbolic appearance of crows in the project serves as a powerful visual metaphor. In many cultures, crows are associated with prophecy, fate, and dark omens. Their presence within the work symbolizes the inevitability of the pandemic and positions the event as a preordained part of a larger, almost mythological narrative—much like the fable that fate weaves for us all.
In Ballet Story, the balance between external beauty and internal conflict is reflected through imagery that explores how life can appear picturesque on the surface, while beneath it, the harsh reality of struggle and change unfolds. This juxtaposition mirrors the way we, as individuals and as a society, have tried to navigate a world suddenly thrown into uncertainty—where the delicate romance of life is often shadowed by the weight of unpredictable forces beyond our control.
