Ha Tha - 2021

Analog Photography

Hatha draws inspiration from the ancient practice of Hatha Yoga, focusing on the balance and interplay between two fundamental forces—“ha” (the solar current) and “tha” (the lunar current). These two energies represent the dual nature of manifestation, working together to create harmony and unity within the self and the world. In the mystical language of yoga, "ha" is associated with the masculine, active, and outward energy, while "tha" embodies the feminine, passive, and inward energy. The essence of Hatha Yoga lies in the dynamic dance between these forces, as they shape our experience and perception of the world.

This project explores the balance between these polarities and how they manifest in both the external world and within us. Just as in Hatha Yoga, where the focus shifts between the solar and lunar energies, this work aims to reflect the shifting nature of human experience—moving from the outward, dynamic forces of “ha” to the inward, receptive energies of “tha.” It symbolizes how we, as individuals, oscillate between the active and passive states, embodying both energies simultaneously while seeking equilibrium.

The visual narrative plays with light and shadow, mirroring the solar and lunar currents. The sun’s intense warmth and the moon’s calm, reflective glow represent the extremes we experience in our physical and emotional states. The contrast between these two energies highlights the complex, ever-shifting nature of being. Just as Hatha Yoga seeks to bring balance to the body and mind, this project aims to evoke a sense of alignment between opposing forces, suggesting that true harmony lies in the union of both. In essence, Hatha invites the viewer to reflect on the cyclical and dynamic nature of life. It challenges us to consider how we, like the practice of Hatha Yoga, can find equilibrium within ourselves by embracing both the light and the dark, the active and the passive, the masculine and the feminine.
