This series of images was created during a difficult chapter of my life, between 2022 and 2023, while I was in the midst of my PhD studies in London. At that time, I was experiencing some of my deepest moments of depression, feeling trapped in my room with nowhere to go, and suffering from the unjust treatment I faced within the school’s educational system. The weight of this isolation led me to lose nearly all passion for life. In the midst of this emotional struggle, I turned to photography as a way to heal, to find solace, and to express the silent battles I was facing.
The images were mostly taken in the courtyard garden of Whitehouse, with a focus on sun-facing flowers. The stark contrast between light and shadow is striking, especially with some flowers growing alone, reaching towards the sky, undeterred in their pursuit of life and growth. These flowers, in their quiet persistence, mirrored my own emotional state at that time—growing in silence, in a place where no one was looking, yet striving to reach something beyond the immediate despair.
Occasionally, I ventured out to attend exhibitions, and some of the images were captured during moments like visiting the London Photo Fair, reflecting the timeliness of my emotional journey. In these fleeting moments, I felt like photography was the only thing left in my life that allowed me to connect with something beyond my isolation. These images speak not just to my artistic process but to my attempt to understand and heal from the hardships I was experiencing.
