The Disappearing Train Stations III_Village - 2017

Digital Photography

Next to the station is a village where there is no noise, neon light, hustle and bustle of city or busy crowd. A mother picking up children back from school; the puppy waiting for their owners back from work at the gate; an old man reading near the window; people gathering in front of the house and chatting after dinner; passengers on the street heading home in a hurry… These images above triggered my childhood memory of harmony and peace.

This is an age of rapid change. When I was little, there were tile-roofed houses outside of my window. I heard birds chirping in the morning and I saw smoke curling up from kitchen chimneys in the afternoon. Nowadays, outside are the sound of construction, the busy traffic flow and high buildings rising up. Shenzhen is an ever-bright city and a representative metropolitan of China. Many young men like me, came here to chase their dream.

Faced with changes, people often feel that life is a dream in which they experience lost, confusion, sadness and frustration but also pleasure, joy, courage, firmness and hope. It is natural to be pessimistic when we have to meet passive choices such as the change of social environment and the passing away of relatives. Like the disappearing train station, many changes cannot be controlled by ourselves. However, there are some changes that can be achieved actively. For example: what kind of career and life do we want?
