Are We Constantly Being Targeted - 2025

Analog Photography

This series, created in collaboration between photographer Han and fashion designer Bowen Liu, delves into the psychological impact of living under constant surveillance. It reflects the pervasive tension that emerges from the ever-present threat of a nuclear disaster and the broader idea of the Panopticon—a world where we feel continuously watched, even when there’s no obvious presence. The haunting imagery captures both vulnerability and the suffocating sense of confinement, portraying individuals trapped in their own personal prisons, forced to question the true nature of the forces that govern them.

The photographs speak to the uneasy feeling of existing in a world dominated by unseen surveillance, encapsulating the stark contrast between stillness and anxiety, freedom and restriction. Each shot, illuminated by stark lighting and eerie, minimalist details, evokes a sense of isolation, with the figures wrapped in Liu’s fashion designs—pieces that simultaneously offer protection and vulnerability. The use of objects, such as candles and reflective surfaces, enhances this atmosphere, suggesting both fragile moments of clarity and fragmented views of reality. The poses of the figures, whether pressed against walls, curled in protective postures, or reaching for freedom, encapsulate the psychological tension that defines this panoptic existence.

These images are not just a visual exploration; they reflect an internal battle, where the boundaries of physical and emotional spaces are blurred, and the constant questioning of ”Is it watching me?“ becomes a shared, collective experience. In this project, we combine art and fashion to express the psychological complexity of living in the shadow of an ever-looming threat. Through our collaboration, the line between the body, the clothing, and the environment is erased, underscoring the idea that we are all part of a larger system of observation, helplessly waiting for something to drop.
