Reflections of Self - 2020

Analog Photography

Reflections of Self is a visual exploration of the fluidity and complexity of gender. The project embraces the intersection of masculinity, femininity, and queer identity, all through a minimalist, androgynous lens. The clothing is sleek and neutral—simple lines and cool tones, allowing the viewer to focus on the layers of meaning woven through each piece. It’s a quiet rebellion against the restrictive confines of traditional gender norms, creating space for something that feels bold and liberating.

The model, dressed in sexy, feminine twists on traditionally masculine clothing, embodies a sensuality that transcends gender. There’s something striking about seeing feminine traits woven into masculine cuts, like soft fabrics or delicate details that challenge expectations. The result is a confident, unapologetic exploration of what it means to blur the lines—an embodiment of queer sensuality that doesn’t ask for permission. It’s the celebration of fluidity, of stepping out of the box and into a space that’s entirely your own.

At the heart of the project lies the mirror—a simple, yet powerful symbol of self-reflection. It’s not just a surface that reflects the model’s image but a deeper look into the ever-evolving self. The mirror within a mirror concept suggests layers within layers, asking: Who are we really? Is the version we see in the mirror the full picture? The idea of the mirror here isn't static—it’s a constantly shifting reflection of how we see ourselves versus how we want to be seen.

The umbrella, an unexpected but significant addition, adds another layer of meaning. It feels protective but also expansive. It’s a shield from the outside world, but it’s also an invitation to express yourself without fear. Like the fluidity of identity itself, the umbrella is a symbol of transformation, shelter, and exposure—sometimes we hide under it, sometimes we stand proudly beneath it, letting the world see us as we are.

In the end, Reflections of Self isn’t just about clothing or gender. It’s about the freedom to be whoever we are, without limits. It’s a celebration of identity—one that’s constantly evolving, constantly shifting, and forever ours to define.
